I'm in love with my Garmin Forerunner 301
I just cannot live without it, me and my Garmin Forerunner 301 has been spending most of all my training hours together. We cannot be separated during training.
We have gone through a lot together, we have suffered together, on the bike and whilst running. We have climbed hills, we have gone faster than the allowed speed on the roads, we have been there for each other through thick and thin, in the rain, wind and even in the snow. He has been telling me when to slow down, when to speed up and when to rest. My Garmin 301 has been monitoring my heart beat, every beat , beat after beat. He knows how many calories I've burned and keeps track of my history. Since we found each other we have spend 2200 km together, this is a long time and I'm sure I will carry it around my wrist for much longer.
But I can feel that a breakup might be coming up. Why can I not take him for a swim? And why has my wife started sending pictures of other ones that would fit nicely?
Garmin, many thanks and for the time being I'm not letting you go!

Hi,
Love reading your blog! Very inspirational and informative for a tri-newbie! Keep it going!
Is the Forerunner 301 suitable for both cycling and swimming and is it possible to upload a map/route plotted on something like mapymyride and it will direct you? Or should I be looking for something else?
Regards,
Rob

Rob,
I'm using my Garmin 301 only for running and cycling. The 301 is waterproof but I have never seen or heard anyone taking it to the pool. I think it might not be swim resistant, but cannot confirm this.
You cannot upload rides from mapMyRide.com to the 301 but I have used it in conjunction with the maps created by MapMyRide. I used the 301 as a compass. It shows you the wind directions you are riding in. There are more advanced Garmin versions which you can buy (Edge 305, 605) which you can use to upload rides too.
Hope this helps.
